4 Things To Do Before You Go On A Summer Vacation
Summer is almost in full swing here at our Garner apartments, and that means one thing, and one thing only — people are either taking advantage of the summer sun by spending time at our state-of-the-art salt water pool, or they are preparing for their upcoming summer vacations.
If you are planning a summer vacation, you have likely been focused on the vacation more than getting your apartment ready for your prolonged absence. While we can’t blame you — with vacations being incredibly exciting, and all — we do, however, hope that you prepare your apartment a little bit for the time when you will be gone.
Because of this, we have made a small list of some of the things that you can do to prepare for your upcoming vacation. Continue reading to learn more.
Tell Your Apartment Management Team
One of the first things that you should do when you are planning on leaving your apartment for extended periods of time is to tell your apartment management how long you plan on being gone. Now, there are a number of reasons that you might want to do so, but the most common reason is that there is usually a pre-vacation procedure that is included in your lease.
But why does your apartment management team needs to know that you are gone? While it seems like a privacy infringement, that is not the intention of including a pre-vacation procedure in a lease. Instead, it is put in place to keep both parties safe.
When your apartment manager knows that you will be out of town for an extended period of time, they can keep a closer eye on your unit for suspicious activity. Sure, a simple light on in the middle of the night might be normal, but if you are halfway around the globe, it might raise some questions to the office staff. Additionally, it is important to let your Garner apartment management know that you will be absent so that in the event of a disaster, like a fire or a tornado, the management staff will be able to ensure first responders that there was nobody in your apartment.
So simply follow the pre-vacation procedures outlined by your Garner apartment’s management team and let them know how long you will be gone, as well as what kind of access to communication that you might have!
Figure Out Your Parking
If you are planning a vacation this summer, it is likely that you will either be going on a road trip (taking your car with you) or catching a ride from a friend or ride-sharing service to the airport (leaving your car at our Garner apartments). If your trip details include the latter, and your car will be staying in our parking lot, consider parking in an area that is both safe for your car and considerate to others in the community.
Lucky for you, anywhere that you park in our Garner apartment’s parking lots will be a safe place for your car — making the real parking decision fall on how nice you want to be to other residents. If you plan on being gone for more than a week, it might be nice to move your car farther out in the lot rather than taking a prime parking spot in the closest row to the apartment building. But like we said, that is up to you!
Put Your Mail On Hold
Another important thing that you should consider when planning for a vacation is what will happen to your mail while you are gone. If you are planning on being gone for an extended period of time, it might be wise to get in touch with the United States Postal Service and place your mail on hold until you return. If you are not planning on being gone for a long period of time and are confident that there is more than enough room in your mailbox for the mail that you will receive when you are gone, then you might not have to worry about it.
Whenever you follow the pre-vacation procedure, be sure to alert the front office of our Garner apartments that you have, or have not, placed your mail on hold.
Ask A Neighbor To Keep An Eye Out
When it comes to living in an apartment, one of the most beneficial aspects of having neighbors that are so close by is that you can have them keep an eye on your Garner apartment while you are gone. For example, if your neighbor knows that you are gone for two weeks and hears a large crash in your apartment one week into your trip, they can get in touch with the management office to let them know, as well as text you or call you to keep you updated.
Additionally, the perks of having close neighbors can extend beyond that of having a “human alert system” keeping an eye on your apartment. If you feel comfortable enough with your neighbor, you can also leave them with a key to your apartment to perform basic maintenance tasks like watering your houseplants while you are away.
