If you haven’t used it recently, or if it doesn’t bring instant joy when you see it, don’t hold on to it.

Think decorative boxes, bins, and containers. They could also include drawer and cupboard organizers. Really, the options are only limited by your creativity. The point is to utilize storage solutions to make the most out of every inch of space. They’re especially important in areas where items tend to accumulate such as your kitchen pantry or your bedroom closet. Creating a space for everything helps make your home more organized, and they make it easier to keep it that way.

Tip #3: Utilize Under-the-Bed Storage

Now make it a point to find ways to use that space better. Consider installing floating shelves for small items and collectibles. Or, add hooks that you can use for hanging hats, purses, or kitchen utensils. Now, look at the ceiling. Most people don’t think of hanging much from the ceiling, but think of the ways that you can save valuable floor space by hanging them from the ceiling. 

Before you install shelving, hooks, or any other damaging or permanent fixtures, always make sure to check your rental agreement first. Many apartments may penalize you for adding these things, unless they can be removed without damage. Fortunately, there are many removable hooks and similar items on the market that can help with storage without having to drill a hole in the wall.

Tip #5: Control Your Cords

Nothing makes a place look messy faster than a bunch of unruly power cords. Of course, you can’t do away with them — they’re what you use to power your phone, computer, TV, fitness tracker, and the dozens of other devices that have made their way into our daily lives. Instead, consider getting a cable organizer that can corral and disguise your out-of-control cords. At the very least, a few well-placed zip ties can even work wonders.
