Garner, NC Natural Spaces & Parks: Why They Are Important

While we are a complex with apartments for rent in Garner, NC, here at the Summerwind Apartments, we care about more than just maintaining our property and satisfying our residents — we also care about the city in which our apartments are located.

Garner is a wonderful city, and we are very lucky to live in such a perfect location. But what makes it so great? In our opinion, living in a suburb of a larger city combines the best of both worlds. On one hand, it is nice to live in a metropolitan area with all the amenities that you could possibly need. On the other hand, it is nice to be a short distance from the city where you can have access to  areas like parks and other natural areas. In Garner, we get both.

But why are natural spaces and parks so beneficial to live around? Continue reading today’s blog to find out!

Why Are Parks And Natural Areas So Important To Cities?

As we said above, it is nice to live in the city where you can find any amenities that you might need. But it is also nice to have access to nature. Parks are perfect because they are little pockets of nature that can be strategically placed around cities — and here in Garner, we have plenty.

But what makes parks an asset to cities? Below, we have listed the three greatest impacts that a park can have on a city.

Economic Growth

When you think of a city park, economic growth is not likely to be the first thing that comes to mind, but parks can spur new development and increase local property values. Additionally, parks can play host to a variety of different activities ranging from local sports leagues to city events — further driving the economic growth of the community.

Increased Community Health

It is no secret that if people have access to a place where they can be active that they will be healthier. In fact, a study published by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has found that there is a clear correlation between easy access to open space and an increased likelihood of exercise. So public parks are essentially a benefit to public health.

Healthier Ecosystems

Nature is fragile, so naturally, it does not thrive as well in urban and semi-urban environments as it would in the countryside. The negative effect on the ecosystem caused by roads, buildings, and other infrastructure is known as habitat fragmentation. Habitat fragmentation inhibits the pollination and spread of plants, as well as the movement of animals. When a park is implemented into a city plan, it helps preserve the local ecosystem by giving flora and fauna a place to thrive.

But Why Are We Bringing This Up?

At the Summerwind Apartments, we understand that people benefit from being able to spend time outdoors — and parks allow people to do just that.

We are happy to announce to our residents that there will be a new outdoor space in Garner in the upcoming future. On February 4, 2019, the Garner Town Council unanimously voted to buy a total of 72.5 acres at 607 and 0 E. Garner Road to build a future park.

At the Summerwind Apartments, we urge our residents to keep an eye out for the project’s completion date and to check out the park when it is complete. Are you looking to live closer to parks and natural areas? Check out our apartments for rent in Garner, NC today!
