Our Roots Are Tied To The Railroad

Garner began in 1847 as a wood and water stop servicing the North Carolina Railroad that connected Goldsboro and Charlotte. By 1878 Garner acquired its first post office, and at that time was called by the name “Garner’s Station”. Over time, more and more businesses began to set up shop in Garner’s Station and in 1905, when it acquired a railroad depot, it was reincorporated as the town of Garner. 

Even before the railroad spurred the growth of this little town, the surrounding area was dominated by cotton and tobacco farms — industries that would be vital to Garner’s prosperity throughout the 20th century. Eventually, many of the farms would be replaced by paved roads and buildings, but the humble roots of our beloved town will never be forgotten.

Less Than 10 Miles From Raleigh

Garner is a quiet, medium-sized town of about 28,000 residents that is consistently ranked as one of the best places to work and live. Some of the reasons for its popularity include affordability and small-town charm — two desirable attributes that make living here even better when you consider that the capital city of Raleigh is just a handful of miles away.  Many people enjoy being able to live in a quaint, neighborly town, yet have access to big city amenities and nightlife.
