More Questions You Should Ask if You’re Doing an Apartment Search

In our last post, we discussed some of the most important questions you should ask when you’re doing an apartment search. But, we’ve only scratched the surface. At Summerwind Apartments in Garner, we know how hard it can be to find just the right home. Keep reading to learn about even more questions you should ask to make sure you are fully aware of the terms and policies.

Is Extra Storage Room Available?

No matter how big your home is, there never seems to be enough room. Somehow people always seem to accumulate more “stuff” than what they have room for or need. Before you decide to drive half of your belongings straight to the thrift store, you might want to ask if the apartment you’re looking to rent has extra storage space.

If your apartment doesn’t have the space you need, you might want to consider whether or not it’s worth it to invest in an off-site storage unit or larger apartment. Both options can be quite costly, but it might be better than having to quickly part with a bunch of things that you might need in the future.

Are Barbecue Grills Allowed?

Who doesn’t love grilling or hosting a family cookout in the summer? If you’re the type of person who seems to cook more on your grill than on your stove, you’ll want to ask your potential apartment manager if grills are allowed. For many places, the answer is “no.” And, it makes sense why. Dozens of people, living in tight quarters, with raging fires on their patios…it’s a recipe for disaster.

Just because you can’t have your own, that doesn’t mean your grilling days are over. At Summerwind Apartments in Garner, we offer a beautiful covered grilling and picnic area for all of our residents to use. It’s the perfect place for your family or friends to hang out and enjoy all of what Summerwind has to offer. Whether they’re swimming in our saltwater pool, playing pool in our billiards room, or helping you tend to the grill, everyone will be sure to have a great time.

Can I See the Actual Apartment I’ll Be Renting?

When you first visit an apartment complex, you’ll probably be given a tour of the complex, including the community amenities and possibly a walkthrough of the different floor-plan options. If you’ve asked all of the important questions and have decided that you’re ready to take the next step, make sure that you’ve been allowed to tour the actual apartment that you’ll be renting. You don’t want to be surprised when you show up on move-in day and you’re given the keys to the unit that is right next to the busy highway when you thought you were getting the one next to the pool.

Are Pets Allowed?

The last thing you want to do is find a place that you love and then find out that you can’t bring your furry best friend. It can be a deal-breaker if the apartment you are looking at has a no pets policy. You’ll also want to be sure to get the details surrounding the rules for pets. Some places have a size limit for dogs. Most places allow cats and dogs, but if you have something a little more unusual like a pot-belly pig, chances are you’re going to have a harder time trying to find a place.

If the place that you’re looking to rent allows pets, get specific information on what the additional cost will be. Most places will require you to pay a deposit and a monthly fee on top of the usual rent. Pay special attention to the extra cost for Fido, because you’ll want to make sure that it won’t put you over your budget.
