White Deer Park
If you love the peace and tranquility of being in the great outdoors, you have to put a visit to White Deer Park at the top of your list. Located on 96-acres adjacent to Lake Benson, this park has two miles of paved trails, a 2,500 square foot nature center, and multiple picnic shelters. It’s the perfect place for a lunchtime stroll or for planning a weekend picnic with family or friends.
Children also love coming to White Deer Park because of all of the exhibits there are to explore. The nature center is home to several resident animals and they host a variety of fun programs every month.
Is there a wedding in your future? If so, you should know that the nature center is also available for rent. In fact, it’s beautiful architecture and wooded surroundings make it one of the most popular locations for couples tying the knot.
See a Show
The Garner Performing Arts Center offers fun and affordable entertainment for all ages and its conveniently located in the Downtown Garner historic district. The auditorium features 465 comfortable, theater-style seats that allow you to sit back, relax, and enjoy concerts and live shows without ever having to leave your hometown.
Race to the Finish
If you want to get your heart racing and test your driving skills, there’s no better place than Rush Hour Karting. This state-of-the-art indoor go-kart track lets you experience speeds of up to 40 miles per hour as you race to beat your friends to the finish line. If all of that adrenaline makes you hungry, feel free to stop by the tavern when you’re done. It features a full menu of favorites including pizza, burgers, sandwiches, and appetizers — and don’t forget to check out the daily specials!
Just because you’re two hours from the ocean doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy a day on the water! Lake Benson Park is an oasis of fun right in the heart of Garner. The 64-acre park includes a dog park, several grills and picnic areas, almost two miles of walking trails, and fishing access. Can’t wait to get on the water? Lake Benson Boathouse has boats, canoes, and kayaks available for rent on weekends mid-March through late October.
While you’re exploring the park grounds, don’t forget to check out the Garner Veterans Memorial. This breathtaking monument features pillars with the names of 67 Garner-area veterans who lost their lives serving their country. Take your time and read about Garner’s war-torn past or spend a few moments in peaceful reflection on one of the many benches throughout the memorial.
Shop Until You Drop
Are you the kind of person who loves to shop all day? Whether your idea of fun is finding great bargains or discovering a unique piece of clothing that reflects your style perfectly, Garner has many shopping options to choose from. White Oak Crossing is Garner’s shopping mecca with all of your favorite stores like Kohl’s, Michaels, Pier 1 Imports, and Best Buy. It also hosts North Carolina’s only Cabela’s.
Take a drive northwest down US-70 and you’ll discover dozens of other stores and shopping centers to explore. Stop by the newly renovated Shops at Garner Plaza for one of the best bridal stores in town. Then, stop by Garner Town Square and North/South Station to round out your day of browsing. Need something to keep you going after all that walking? Stop by the Bearded Lady Bottle Shop for a refreshing pit stop. They carry a unique selection of draft beers and ciders — perfect for quenching your thirst after a hard day of shopping.
